Lies on the Internet

“You won 1000 euros!” Messages like this appear again and again on social media. You might also see pictures of wanted persons, drivers’ licenses for sale or warnings about toxins in gifts. The origin and credibility of the messages are unclear. The information is often nothing but false statements, fake news, malicious jokes or fraud. The “Look!” (SCHAU HIN!) Initiative by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and the broadcast networks ARD and ZDF recommends that content should not be distributed on the Internet if there is any doubt about the truth of the content.
