10 years of tuenews INTERNATIONAL

By Wolfgang Sannwald
Editorial. In 2015 and 2016, hundreds of refugees had to live together in the Tübingen district sports hall, with tarpaulins and construction fences separating rooms with multi-storey beds. People from different cultures came together in a confined space, most of them from Syria, many from Afghanistan and African countries. At that time, there was a lack of information on all sides, both for those who did not understand German or English and for the local carers, helpers and the entire local community. Ten years ago, tuenews INTERNATIONAL was created by the Tübingen District Office. We published the first edition on 1 December 2015.
In 2025, we will celebrate our 10th anniversary by realigning ourselves for our readers: we are now meeting the information needs of refugees with our own language channels for Arabic, Dari, Ukrainian, English and German, have expanded our Instagram presence and will soon be launching our tuenews app. One thing remains the same: we research and write primarily on topics that are useful for the everyday life of our target group and for integration.
But we are also celebrating in style: on 19 November, we will be at the job fair for refugees in the Rottenburg town hall from 3 p.m. onwards. We are looking forward to a concert and party on 7 December from 7 p.m. as part of the TüFolk Festival together with Klangfolk e.V. at the Sudhaus in Tübingen. On 18 December, we invite you to the Tübingen District Office from 6.30 p.m. In addition to a review, there will be plenty of insights and outlooks, together with District Administrator Dr Hendrik Bednarz.
