Ukrainian schoolchildren living in Germany can continue to learn according to the Ukrainian curriculum free of charge via the “All-Ukrainian School Online” platform. Children from Ukrainian families in Germany can thus combine attending a German school with the Ukrainian curriculum, thereby maintaining their connection to the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian educational standards.
The “All-Ukrainian School Online” is a state service for digital and hybrid learning for grades 1 to 11 and also offers methodological support for teachers. The platform brings together video lessons, tests, and assignments for students, as well as materials for teachers. The aim is to give all children and teachers equal, free, and unrestricted access to high-quality Ukrainian learning materials, regardless of where they live. The platform was developed by the civil society organization Osvitoria on behalf of the Ukrainian Ministries of Digital Transformation and Education and Science, as well as the Ukrainian Institute for Educational Development. The project is supported by Switzerland as part of the DECIDE program—in English, Support for Democratic Education in Ukraine. Funding is also provided by UNICEF, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Ukrainian school-leaving certificate possible
However, children cannot obtain a Ukrainian school-leaving certificate through the platform alone. It is essential that they are also enrolled in a Ukrainian school—either a state online school or a school accredited by the Ministry of Education that offers distance learning. If they pass the annual performance assessment and, if applicable, final exams, they will receive a Ukrainian certificate of general secondary education. This allows children in Germany to pursue both a German and a Ukrainian education at the same time.
23 school subjects
The platform offers digital learning materials for 23 school subjects for grades 1 to 11. These include Ukrainian language and literature, foreign languages such as English and German, mathematics, natural sciences, Ukrainian and world history, art, law, computer science, and technology. There is also a course on health, safety, and well-being, as well as Crimean Tatar language and literature.
The “All-Ukrainian Online School” can be used for complete online lessons as well as for reviewing or revising individual topics. Over 2,200 new lessons have already been created for grades 5 to 11, and hundreds of materials have been updated for grades 5 and 6 of the New Ukrainian School (NUS).
German compulsory schooling takes precedence
The platform itself is not a school with face-to-face teaching, but a digital learning resource. Lessons usually take place online; face-to-face teaching only takes place if a specific Ukrainian school in the local area organizes corresponding classes.
For children in Germany, German compulsory schooling remains binding. Participation in Ukrainian lessons is additional. The Ukrainian Ministry of Education often recommends more flexible models such as day school or family schooling for families with a high double burden. In family schooling, children learn mainly independently at home under the supervision of their parents. The school where the child is enrolled can provide advice and support. At the end of the semester or year, there is an assessment and, if necessary, exams. In “day school,” children learn completely independently and only take the annual exams. There are no ongoing assessments during the school year. This is often practical for families abroad because it reduces the time required.
There is no fixed number of hours per week for children abroad. In practice, the workload ranges from a few hours per week to an almost complete Ukrainian timetable within the framework of distance learning classes.
The German Education Server presents the “All-Ukrainian School Online” as a nationwide online school for grades 5 to 11—a platform for distance learning and hybrid teaching that combines face-to-face and remote learning. It emphasizes that the platform offers free access to video lessons, tests, and materials for independent work in numerous school subjects.
One million users worldwide
The Ukrainian Ministry of Education does not publish exact figures on how many Ukrainian children in Germany are learning via the “All-Ukrainian Online School.” However, it is known that by 2025, the platform had reached over one million registered users worldwide—in Ukraine and abroad.
At the same time, more than 227,000 children from Ukraine will be attending German schools in the second quarter of 2025. Some of them also use Ukrainian online services, but no precise statistics are available for Germany specifically.
Get started with the app
The “All-Ukrainian School Online” is available both via the website and via mobile apps. There is an app for the main platform and a separate app for grades 1 to 4, which can be downloaded from Google Play, the App Store, and the Huawei AppGallery. This allows children to view lessons and complete assignments on their smartphone or tablet—at home or on the go.
To start learning, visit the All-Ukrainian Online School website, select “Register,” and create a personal account as a student or teacher. Then select the appropriate grade level to access courses in the desired subjects, video lessons, tests, and assignments. The platform is free, entirely in Ukrainian, and accessible from Germany and other countries.
