The ‘main application for citizen’s income’ at the job centre is a ‘huge undertaking’, explains Sven Jäger, head of the integration department at the Tübingen district office. This application is the most important thing for refugees from Ukraine who want to receive benefits in Germany. Even a single person has to submit numerous documents in addition to the eight pages of the application form. If there are other people in the family, the amount of paperwork increases further.
Tick the correct boxes in fields 27 and 34
All this work will be in vain if someone ticks one of two boxes. In field 27, the Jobcentre asks, ‘Are you fit for work?’ Anyone who is not fit for work will not receive any money from the Jobcentre. It is not responsible for this and will therefore reject the application. In field 34, the Jobcentre asks, ‘Are you eligible under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act?’ Anyone who is eligible under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act will also not receive citizen’s income, so the Jobcentre will also reject this application.
