City museum seeks stories of flight and migration

Photos of the great journey, letters and documents showing the stages of flight or emigration: the Tübingen City Museum is collecting stories about migration. Under the heading “Your migration story is missing,” the museum is asking for documents and memories of the time of arrival in Tübingen. “We are looking for: photos, documents, letters, club records, brochures, and more from the time of arrival in the 20th and 21st centuries,” says the museum’s Instagram page. Objects, stories, and documents are to be collected for the time being; a specific exhibition is not currently planned. Historian Marina Chermykh nevertheless hopes for a “great gain for the city’s collection and archive, which have a large gap in their collection of migrant history,” as she told tunews INTERNATIONAL. Individual pieces will be presented as objects of the month in the city museum’s display window. The museum is also looking for association documents, appeals, and flyers from people who are politically active on the issue of migration. This includes current refugees from Ukraine or Syria as well as displaced persons after World War II, refugees from the GDR, “guest workers,” and ethnic German repatriates.

Anyone who has something to contribute can come to the City Museum, Kornhausstraße 10, on Sunday, September 28, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be another appointment on Thursday, October 2, at the same time. Other appointments can be arranged by email or phone. Marina Chermykh speaks Russian.
