In Baden-Württemberg, 16 parties are competing in the Bundestag election on Sunday, 23 February. Nationwide, there are 29 parties. The digital Wahl-O-Mat from the Federal Agency for Civic Education can help with the decision. However, it does not make any recommendations. It is based on the party and election programmes as well as the programmatic statements of the parties on the election.
38 theses to click on
The Wahl-O-Mat allows eligible voters to choose between three answers to 38 theses online: they can agree, click on neutral, disagree with the thesis or skip it. All parties that are admitted to the election have answered the theses beforehand. The theses range from asylum and migration to support for Ukraine and dual citizenship. But nuclear energy and a speed limit on motorways are also topics.
Compare party programmes with your own opinion
In the next step, the theses can be weighted. Theses indicated as important count twice in the results. In the “party comparison” section, users can determine which parties their own opinion should be compared with. They can then see for which theses the selected parties completely, partially or do not agree with their own point of view. To do this, they have to click on “show own position”.
Party positions and their reasoning
Users can also access the parties’ justifications for their respective positions by clicking on “Party Comparison”. It is possible to select only certain parties or all parties without having to re-enter the 38 theses. Via “Tuning”, users can still change their own positions and the weighting. After that, they can see how this affects the result.
