Twenty-one parties are running in the state election in Baden-Württemberg on 8 March 2026. Which party matches my convictions? You can find out with the Wahl-O-Mat from the State Agency for Civic Education.
You’ll need a little patience to get the first result. There are 38 topics to choose from. You can agree or disagree with them. You can also choose ‘neutral’ or ‘skip this question’. For example, you can vote on whether all initial reception facilities in the state should offer psychosocial counselling. Or whether the state should continue to support projects against right-wing extremism.
From housing to free local transport
But it’s also about housing. Here, the question is whether rental flats that have been vacant for a long time should be consistently withdrawn from their owners and rented out. Should public transport in the state be free for users? The answer to this question also brings us closer to the result.
Question 34 asks whether asylum seekers should be housed exclusively in collective accommodation until a decision is made on their application. Finally, there is a question about whether Baden-Württemberg should stick to its goal of climate neutrality.
Which party is most like me?
Once you have clicked through the 38 questions, you can decide which issues should be given double weighting. These range from the school system to taxes on large inheritances and women in leadership positions to protection against discrimination by state authorities and increased recruitment of foreign skilled workers.
You can then select the parties with which you want to compare your own opinions. With just one click, you can select all parties. More information about each party is available on request. The Wahl-O-Mat then spits out which parties best match your own position and by what percentage. The weighting can be changed again, which may produce a different result. In the next step, you can compare your own position again with the positions of the selected parties. If you want to know more, you can find out about their positions on all 38 questions.
