“Focus on Ukraine” at the University of Tübingen


In the winter semester of 2025/26, the University of Tübingen will continue its series of events entitled “Focus on Ukraine” on Russia’s war against Ukraine, history, and language. From January 12 to the end of February, there will be lectures, an exhibition opening, a conference, and a film screening with discussion.
The series kicks off on Monday, January 12, 2026, with a lecture on women in war. At 6 p.m., publisher Andreas Rostek (edition fotoTAPETA) will speak in the Alte Oberschulamts building (Keplerstr. 2, HS 1) about writer Victoria Amelina and the female perspective on the war in Ukraine. The series continues on Tuesday, January 20, with a lecture on self-narration and self-representation in the Soviet era based on the archives of Yur Mezhenko. Literary scholar Olena Haleta (Lviv/Berlin) will speak in the Brechtbau (Wilhelmstr. 50, Room 426). The lecture begins at 12:15 p.m. On Thursday, January 22, at 6:15 p.m., journalist and author Steffen Dobbert will speak at the Altes Oberschulamt (Keplerstr. 2, HS 1) about German-Ukrainian history, historical narratives, and political responsibility today.

Exhibition and film

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 6 p.m., the exhibition “Antitext: Censorship and Repression in the Soviet Union” from the Kharkiv Literary Museum will open at the University Library (Wilhelmstr. 32). On Thursday and Friday, February 19 and 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., there is the linguistic conference “Morphological Norm and Variation in Modern Ukrainian” on the development of the modern Ukrainian language in the Brecht Building (Wilhelmstr. 50, Room 426). On Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30 p.m., the Kino Museum (Am Stadtgraben 2) will show the film “We Must” followed by a discussion. The screening will take place on the anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
University of Tübingen stands in solidarity with Ukraine
In its statement “We #StandWithUkraine,” the Institute for Eastern European History and Regional Studies at the University of Tübingen condemns Russia’s armed attack on democratic Ukraine, describes it as imperial aggression, and declares its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those in Russia who publicly oppose the war.
