The Welcome Center Neckar-Alb of the Reutlingen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) will continue its work. It serves as a contact point for skilled workers from abroad and their families as they seek to establish themselves in the region.
According to a statement, the IHK Reutlingen will receive around 415,000 euros in funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg for the next three years. “It is important that immigrants feel welcome,” says Martin Fahling, head of the IHK Department for International Affairs and International Skilled Workers. The region cannot afford to lose well-qualified people simply because they cannot find employment here. In addition, experts provide advice to companies that want to recruit and integrate international skilled workers.
Current focus: Ukraine
Around 240 people have received advice from the Welcome Center this year; since the project began, the total number has reached 973, according to the statement. Most of the immigrants who currently make use of the counseling services come from Ukraine. There are also many inquiries from people from Syria and Turkey.
Expanded services at the Welcome Center
The Welcome Center Neckar-Alb was launched nearly three years ago. Since then, the focus has increasingly shifted to making it easier for highly qualified professionals to access the labor market and encouraging them to remain in the region. Information events held at the IHK, in town halls, or at language schools provide basic information on topics such as residence rights and the regional labor market. According to the statement, the recognition of professional qualifications plays an important role. Support is also provided for founding new businesses.
Eleven Welcome Centers in Baden-Württemberg
The Welcome Center Neckar-Alb is based at the IHK Reutlingen. There are eleven such centers in Baden-Württemberg. Over the next three years, they will receive a total of 7.5 million euros in funding from the state government.
