The Slavic Seminar at the University of Tübingen is focusing on the war in Ukraine in its summer semester event series “Brennpunkt Ukraine” (Focus on Ukraine). Next up, Andrea Beer (Stuttgart/Kyiv) and Ellina Samowilowa (Kyiv) will share their journalistic experiences and present their analyses on Tuesday, May 6. The lecture “Will the song of freedom ring out across Ukraine?” War, politics, and the public sphere in Ukraine is being organized in collaboration with the Heinrich Böll Foundation Baden-Württemberg. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the Alte Aula, Münzgasse 30.
Next, Gesine Dornblüth and Thomas Franke (Berlin) will report on “Putin’s poison. Russia’s attack on Europe’s freedom.” The lecture will begin on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at the Tübingen branch of the State Agency for Civic Education, Wilhelmstr. 8. Kai Struve (Munich) and Matthäus Wehowski (Tübingen) will then discuss Ukrainian nationalists caught between memory and propaganda. The event will take place on Monday, May 26, at 6 p.m. in the lecture hall at Keplerstraße 2.
Three more lectures will follow from June 23 to July 3. The series will conclude on Wednesday, July 9, with Mischa Gabowitsch (Germersheim) and Mykola Homanyuk (Kherson), who will present their book “Monuments and Territory. War Memorials in Russian-Occupied Ukraine.” The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the lecture hall on Keplerstraße. There will be an opportunity for discussion afterward.
