Majority of refugees are working

Most refugees are working. “Around two-thirds (64 percent) of refugees who arrived in 2015 have paid work, almost three-quarters of them full-time,” writes the Media Service for Integration, citing a 2024 report by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). There are significant differences between the sexes: six years after arrival, 67 percent of men and 23 percent of women were in employment. 75 percent of refugees have a full-time job. Labor force participation increases with the length of stay: after seven years, it was around 62 percent. In addition, around 41 percent of employees work in jobs below their formal qualifications.
