Every year, on International Women’s Day, women fight for their rights. The day of action is always celebrated on March 8. In 2025, the motto is “Strengthening Democracy – Countering Antifeminism”. Topics include violence against women and the disregard for their rights.
Theater on the topic of solidarity
In Tübingen, an event will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, in the auditorium of the cafeteria on Uhlandstraße. The program includes a documentary theater piece by Bühne für Menschenrechte (Stage for Human Rights) about solidarity. There will also be a discussion with two politicians and one representative each from the Baden-Württemberg office against antifeminism and queer hostility and the Tübingen association Frauen helfen Frauen (Women Helping Women). It advises, among others, victims of domestic violence.
Opportunity for discussion
Afterwards, finger food and drinks from the Frauencafé achtbar and Lebenshilfe will be served, along with opportunities for discussion. The evening is being organized by, among others, the city’s equal opportunities officer, the Aktionsbündnis Gleichstellung and the Frauennetzwerk 8. März.
The first day of action was in 1911
International Women’s Day is celebrated in most countries. Since 1911, women’s rights and gender equality have been demanded. On March 8, on the one hand, the achievements of the women’s movement are to be celebrated. But it should also be pointed out where discrimination and inequalities continue to prevail.
There will also be a spectacle at the Tübingen Holzmarkt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with culture, a rally, stalls and dancing, and a demonstration at Tübingen’s market square at 4 p.m.
