The number of pupils with a migrant background in general education schools in Germany has continued to rise. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the figure was 29 per cent in 2024.
For teachers, this was only 11 per cent. In 2019, 26 per cent of pupils at general education schools had an immigrant background. That was 3 percentage points less than in 2024.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, a good quarter of the population in Germany now has a migrant background (26 per cent). According to its definition, a person has an immigrant background if they themselves or both of their parents immigrated to Germany since 1950.
