New accommodation for 750 refugees in Tübingen

The state of Baden-Württemberg is planning a new asylum accommodation facility for 750 refugees next to the Tübingen District Office. To this end, the state government has signed an agreement with the district and the city of Tübingen.
The existing initial reception centre currently accommodates just under 250 people in containers. According to a press release from the Ministry of Justice, three buildings are to be constructed in two phases. This will allow the existing accommodation to remain operational during the construction period.

More places for asylum seekers

In addition to the 750 places, there are to be emergency facilities for 250 people. Should fewer places be required, the state will make one of the three buildings available to the city of Tübingen, for example for students, the statement says. At present, far fewer asylum seekers are arriving in Germany than in previous years.
The asylum accommodation next to the Tübingen District Office was built in 2017 using prefabricated containers. As the structures are only designed for a limited period of use, the existing site is to be redeveloped in the near future.
