nfluenza and Covid-19: New vaccination season has begun

Those who wish to reduce their risk of contracting influenza and other infectious diseases can now get vaccinated free of charge at doctors’ offices and pharmacies. “This provides effective protection against serious illness,” says Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Social Affairs Manfred Lucha (Green Party). He refers to the Standing Vaccination Commission, which recommends vaccinations against flu, Covid-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) especially for older people, people with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women. You can also get vaccinated against flu and coronavirus at many pharmacies. It is also possible to get both vaccinations in one go. The vaccinations are covered by health insurance.
Anyone who is unsure or afraid of side effects can consult their family doctor. The minister points out that a flu vaccination not only protects against the viral disease, but also reduces the risk of a heart attack. “Due to the strong inflammatory reactions in the body, acute cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks occur more frequently after influenza,” according to a statement from the ministry. The Robert Koch Institute recommends getting vaccinated between October and December so that the body has enough time to build up antibodies. To increase their effectiveness, the vaccines are adjusted each year.
