No New Year’s Eve fireworks in Tübingen’s old town

On New Year’s Eve, no rockets may be launched into the sky or firecrackers set off in Tübingen’s old town. With this fireworks ban, the city wants to protect the historic centre and the plane tree avenue from damage on the night of 31 December to 1 January.
At the turn of the year 2008/2009, a half-timbered house on the market square caught fire. The damage amounted to millions. Nationwide, fireworks may not be set off near churches, hospitals and retirement homes either.

Prohibited areas in Tübingen’s old town

A leaflet from the city administration provides information about the ban and the prohibited areas. It is available in restaurants, fireworks sales outlets and many other locations in the old town and can be downloaded from the city’s website: www.tuebingen.de/feuerwerksverbot
14 signs at the entrances to the old town will indicate the ban on 31 December. On New Year’s Eve, police and city administration officials will be on duty to enforce the ban. Violations can be punished with a fine of up to 50,000 euro.
