Easter is just around the corner and will bring another long weekend in 2026. Good Friday falls on 3 April, Easter Sunday on 5 April and Easter Monday on 6 April.
Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays throughout Germany. On these days, shops will be closed and government offices will also be closed. On Easter Sunday, which is not a public holiday in Germany except in Brandenburg, the usual Sunday closing applies, meaning that most shops and all government offices will also remain closed.
Anyone wishing to do their shopping for Easter, the egg hunt or the family meal should do so in good time. The last opportunity to do so is Holy Saturday, which falls on 4 April, when shops are open as usual.
From Tuesday, 7 April 2026, shops and public offices will reopen at their usual times.
