Baden-Württemberg wants to empower girls and women with a migrant background. That is why the Ministry of Social Affairs is funding 20 projects across the state. The aim is to support women so that they can develop their potential and participate in society and working life. Two of the funded projects are in Tübingen and Mössingen.
Developing future prospects
“Yallah –auf geht’s” (Let’s go) is the name of a project in Tübingen that is receiving almost €27,000 in funding. The girls’ club aims to support girls and women with a refugee background in their transition from school to work or during periods of biographical upheaval. On three days, immigrant girls and young women act as role models and educators are available as contact persons – especially for those who have not been living in Germany for long or do not have clear prospects for the future. The girls’ club also offers individual counseling, guidance, and support. The girls’ café at Weberstraße 8 is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Participating in political life
Political education is the focus of a project run by the town of Mössingen. It is funded with almost 19,000 euros. More and more women who came to Germany between 2014 and 2017 are eligible for naturalization. Once they have been naturalized, they can participate actively or passively in elections. A series of events with seminars, training courses, and lectures on the political system is designed to inform them. The aim is for as many immigrant women as possible to participate in elections (local, state, federal) and political life and to become politically active at the local level. Registrations are being accepted at integration@moessingen.de.
