Metal and plastic have always been prohibited in organic waste bins. From May 1, this will be more strictly enforced. According to a new regulation, the proportion of so-called foreign materials such as environmentally harmful plastic and metal must not exceed certain limits. If more than three percent of the organic waste contains so-called contaminants, the bins will not be emptied.
Red card for incorrectly filled bins
Throughout the district of Tübingen, waste disposal companies use metal detectors on garbage trucks to check for unauthorized substances in organic waste. They scan the bins. In addition, garbage collectors take random samples and check the contents of the bins. If the limits for substances that do not belong in organic waste bins are exceeded, the bins will not be emptied. They receive a red card.
Rearrange or pay 20 euros
Red card – and then what? The contents of the bins must be sorted. Plastic and metal must be removed. Alternatively, those affected can purchase a banderole from the Tübingen district office (Wilhelm-Keil-Straße 50). This banderole costs 20 euros. With it, the organic waste bin can be placed on the street for residual waste collection (after registration) or the contents can be taken to the waste disposal center in Dußlingen (Im Steinig 61).
