Time change: Set clocks forward on 29 March

This coming Sunday, 29 March 2026, Central European Summer Time (CEST) officially begins in Germany. At 2:00 am, the clock will be set forward to 3:00 am. This also means that the night from Saturday to Sunday will be one hour shorter. As a result, it will stay light later in the evenings from now on. In return, the sun will rise later in the morning than it has in recent days. Daylight Saving Time ends on 25 October 2026. The clocks will then be put back, and the night of 25 October will consequently last an hour longer.
The time change is intended to help save electricity. By shifting the clocks, people make use of natural daylight for longer in spring and summer. This takes the strain off the electricity grids, as the need for artificial lighting decreases. This time change is based on Directive 2000/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 January 2001.
