The Ammertalbahn between Tübingen and Herrenberg will be out of service until at least the end of the summer holidays. This has been announced by the Ammertalbahn special-purpose association. The reason for this is unexpected technical problems. Initially, there will be a rail replacement service running according to an emergency timetable. Information on when and where the buses depart can be found on the internet. The special-purpose association and DB Regio have announced that a regular replacement schedule is expected to be in place from the weekend onwards.
The reason for the closure is excessive wear and tear on the trains and tracks. The cause of this is currently unclear. The trains now have to be taken to the workshop in Ulm. However, this is not so easy, as the railway line from Tübingen to Stuttgart to Reutlingen is also currently closed due to construction work.
