Christians celebrate Easter: stores closed, museums open

Christians celebrate Easter on the long weekend from Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21. Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, which is why retail stores and many public institutions in Tübingen are only open on Saturday. Most people do not have to work at Easter either. Easter is the highest church festival for Christians. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
That’s why some things are different in the city this weekend:

Weekly market:
On Maundy Thursday, April 17, there will be an additional weekly market at the Holzmarkt. The weekly markets on Good Friday and Easter Monday are canceled. On Saturday, the market will not take place at Jakobus Church, but on the market square and Holzmarkt.

Public library
The main branch of the public library will be closed from Good Friday to Easter Monday. The Derendingen and Waldhäuser-Ost branches will be closed from Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 27. Books cannot be returned to the machines during the closing times.

City Museum and Hölderlin Tower
The City Museum and Hölderlin Tower are open on Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday from 11 am to 5 pm. They are closed on Good Friday. The Museum of Ancient Cultures in Hohentübingen Palace is open from Friday to Monday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Hesse Cabinet
The Hesse Cabinet at Holzmarkt is only open on Holy Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. It is closed on the other Easter days.

Pools
Hallenbad Nord is closed on Easter Sunday and is otherwise open. The Uhlandbad is closed from Good Friday up to and including Easter Monday. The complete vacation opening times can be found at:
