You no longer like the T-shirt from last summer and the jeans are definitely too tight. When clearing out the closet, everyone is likely to come across items of clothing that they no longer wear but are too good to throw away. In the district of Tübingen, there are many opportunities to hand in old textiles so that they can be worn again or at least reused or recycled. This has even been mandatory since January of this year. An EU-wide regulation has been introduced that textiles must be collected separately from other waste. The Tübingen District Office points this out. As there are used clothing containers from non-profit or commercial collectors in almost all towns, the regulation has already been implemented in the district, it says. “For the time being, nothing will change for citizens as a result of the new regulation,” the statement reads.
So where to put the old clothes?
– Used clothing containers:
Used clothing containers for usable clothing, shoes and household textiles can be found throughout the district. There are nine containers in the city of Tübingen alone. The waste management company asks that only clean items of clothing be handed in. Anything that is badly damaged or soiled should still be put in the residual waste. “The recycling capacities are currently fully utilized and the demand for products such as cleaning cloths or insulating materials is saturated,” says the district administration. A list of all container locations can be found online:

– Social clothing stores and free stores:
There are social clothing stores in Tübingen, Mössingen, Rottenburg that accept usable clothing and give it to those in need at a low price. Which textiles are accepted and at what times can be found on the waste management company’s homepage.

In Tübingen, the two free stores in the Schellingstraße and Ludwigstraße 15 housing projects also accept old clothes and various other items. The items are given away there.

Clothes in good condition can of course also be sold at flea markets. Second-hand stores are also an option. There are also many places on the Internet where you can sell second-hand clothes online.
