High temperatures and little rain are putting stress on the forest. This is why the risk of forest fires is also increasing in the Tübingen district. Barbecue areas can remain open for now. However, the district forestry office is asking people to exercise caution when handling fire.
Charcoal prevents flying sparks
Anyone who wants to barbecue should bear a few things in mind, according to a press release from the forestry office. Fires may only be lit in the forest at specially designated barbecue areas, not with barbecue equipment brought from home. Charcoal should be used. This helps to prevent flying sparks in strong winds.
Always extinguish fires completely
The fire must always be kept under control and completely extinguished before leaving the barbecue area. If the ashes have not cooled down completely, they contain embers. Cars should only be parked in designated parking areas. Otherwise, hot catalytic converters could set meadows or fields on fire.
Smoking in the forest is prohibited
As a general rule, smoking is prohibited in the forest from March 1 to October 31. Cigarettes must not be thrown out of car windows. Open fires are only permitted at a minimum distance of 100 meters from the edge of the forest. But be careful: dry grass at the edges of fields can also burn.
Call 112 in case of fire
The access roads to the forest must not be blocked by parked cars. Otherwise, emergency and fire engines will not be able to get through. All forest fires must be reported immediately by calling 112 and giving as precise a location as possible.
