Several municipalities in the Tübingen district are hosting Intercultural Weeks through Sunday, October 18. The most extensive event is taking place in the university town of Tübingen. But Gomaringen, Mössingen, Rottenburg, and—for the first time—Ammerbuch are also inviting people from all nations to a wide variety of events.
“For me, it’s a wonderful opportunity to get to know new people through openness and to find my own place in a community,” writes Anastasiia Nesterova of the InFö association in the brochure for this year’s Intercultural Week (IWO). The program is as diverse as the associations and institutions that organized it. Admission is almost always free and no registration is required.
Culture, creative activities, and conversations—even over a meal
In Tübingen, IWO begins on Saturday, September 26, at 2 p.m. with a festival on the market square. In addition to music and dance, associations from various countries of origin will introduce themselves and offer hands-on activities. Through October 18, the program offers not only cultural events but also multilingual discussions—for example, about how people with refugee backgrounds experience Tübingen—as well as films. Author Roula Al Sagheer will lead a German-Arabic writing workshop. Children can step into different roles in a theater workshop. International specialties are available not only at a buffet.
From documentary theater to an international cooking competition
In Rottenburg, the IWO kicks off on Friday, September 25, with a documentary theater piece about dying in the Mediterranean. There, too, the goal is to highlight diversity—for example, through portraits of people from various demographic groups in local shops, a nature walk, or an international cooking competition.
Afghanistan, fair play, an evening with tea
In Gomaringen, the municipality, the library, and the adult education center are hosting an evening event on Afghanistan to kick off the IWO on Friday, October 2. From October 5 to 16, an exhibition on “Spaces of Tolerance” can be viewed by appointment. Mössingen kicks off the IWO as early as Thursday, September 24, with a lecture on “Diversity as Development Potential for a Society.” “Soccer Without Borders” puts fair play front and center. The women’s breakfast will feature specialties from around the world, along with an intercultural tea evening.
Kickoff with the Theme of Isolation
In Ammerbuch, a community event on Tuesday, September 29, at the Entringer Zehntscheuer will focus on the theme of isolation. A multilingual reading from *Der schaurige Schusch* will follow at the Pfäffingen library. In Entringen, people of all nationalities can meet at the café. A cooking afternoon centered on Brazilian food and culture at the Entringen Community Center on Saturday, October 3, will round out the series of events. There, too, people can discover new things together and get to know one another. “Community,” says District Administrator Hendrik Bednarz in the brochure, “is built where people come together, adopt different perspectives, show interest in one another, and are willing to learn from each other.”
