Asylum seekers will receive a new IBAN for their payment card. It will take effect on October 16, 2026. This means the previous account number will become invalid. Anyone who has such a payment card must therefore notify all payees of the new account number. Otherwise, problems will arise because direct debits will no longer be processed. The Tübingen District Office has issued this notice.
By October 15, all individuals and institutions that collect payments via direct debit must be informed of the new bank account information. This also applies, among other things, to the Deutschlandticket. If the new account number is not provided, the recipient will receive a notification that the account no longer exists. This may result in follow-up inquiries, reminders, and late fees.
The payment card operator provides a form for changing bank account information at the link www.socialcard.de/iban, along with multilingual instructions for filling out the form. Additionally, it refers users to the support page available at www.socialcard.de.
The Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Department at the Tübingen District Office, located at Wilhelm-Keil-Straße 50, has already written to all users of the payment card in the Tübingen district to inform them of the change. If visiting in person, the authority asks that you bring your login credentials as well as documentation regarding existing direct debits (such as invoices).
The Asylum Seeker Benefits Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
