Mini-jobbers are subject to pension insurance contributions but can opt out. Until now, this applied for the entire duration of their employment. From 1 July, a one-off change will be possible.
According to a statement from the Reutlingen Chamber of Crafts, mini-jobbers who have opted for exemption can reverse this decision. In this case, the obligation to pay contributions is reinstated. Mini-jobbers thereby acquire entitlement to benefits from the pension fund (including reduced earning capacity pension, Riester pension contributions and compulsory contribution periods):

One-off change possible
However, the statement goes on to say that multiple changes within a single employment relationship are not possible. Employees with several mini-jobs can also make use of this option and return to compulsory pension insurance. However, the decision then applies to all employment relationships. The relevant applications must be submitted to each employer.
Application and deadlines
Minijobbers must apply to their employer in writing or electronically to have the exemption revoked.
Employers must document the application, record the change in the payroll records and report the revocation of the exemption to the Minijob-Zentrale.
The exemption is deemed to have been revoked if the Minijob-Zentrale does not object within one month.
