Ramadan begins on 19 February in 2026

This year, the fasting month of Ramadan begins on Thursday, 19 February and ends on 20 March. For many Muslims in Germany, this is a special and important time of year. During Ramadan, believers fast every day from dawn until sunset. This means that they neither eat nor drink during this time. In Germany, fasting begins at around 5:15 a.m. on Thursday and ends at around 6:10 p.m. The exact times may vary slightly depending on the city.
Ramadan is not only a time of abstinence, but also a time of reflection, prayer and community. Many people use this month to focus on solidarity, helpfulness and compassion. Muslims wish each other ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ (blessed Ramadan).
