Tetiana Voloshina, a Ukrainian woman originally from Kyiv, has launched “Svoe Radio”, a free 24-hour online radio station, in Germany. The station plays exclusively music by Ukrainian artists – ranging from well-known hits to songs by new musicians.
Launched after fleeing
Following the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Tetiana Voloshina moved to Germany with her children and parents. She now lives in Göttingen, works in a nursery and also teaches at a Ukrainian school. She already had radio experience in Ukraine, including at “Melodiya FM”.
The station’s slogan is: “Your inspiration and your sound in Germany”. The playlist features pop, pop-rock, indie and English-language songs by Ukrainian bands such as The Hardkiss and Okean Elzy. The “feeling of home” is key to the music selection.
Available only in Germany
Due to licensing conditions, Svoe Radio can currently only be listened to in Germany. The app is already available on the App Store, with an Android version for Google Play set to follow soon. To ensure the music is used legally, the founder has purchased an annual licence for around 1,000 euros. In future, Tetjana Woloschyna also plans additional formats and programmes featuring stories from Ukrainians living abroad.
