Kremenchuk honoured Tübingen’s mayor online

Kremenchuk has honoured Tübingen’s mayor, Boris Palmer, for his services to the Ukrainian twin town. The local council had unanimously approved the decision electronically within a matter of seconds. Due to the Russian war of aggression, the mayor was only able to join the council meeting online.
Palmer was moved by this honour from a city that must “be prepared for a deadly threat at any time”. He assured the city’s representatives and its residents that Tübingen would continue to show solidarity and provide civilian support.

An example of European unity since 2024

The solidarity partnership between the two cities has existed since 2024. Kremenchuk’s mayor, Vitalii Maletskyi, expressed his gratitude for the support and the links with the Swabian university town. He described them as “an expression of solidarity and friendship – an example of ‘true European unity’”.
Kremenchuk’s mayor is now awaiting a personal visit from Palmer so that the award can be presented. Palmer stated that he hoped Tübingen would soon be able to contribute to the reconstruction of Kremenchuk, not just to the repair of war damage.
