People with disabilities and a migration or refugee background, as well as their families, can receive free advice from Lebenshilfe Tübingen. The service is available to children, young people and adults. The advisers help people find suitable support and submit applications, for example for care allowance or individual assistance in everyday life.
Support in dealing with authorities
The migration team also supports families when dealing with public authorities and during meetings at kindergarten or school. If needed, Lebenshilfe can arrange language support. The organisation also offers support with leisure activities, family activities and opportunities to meet and exchange experiences with other people in similar situations.
Advice without an appointment
Open consultation hours are available at Handwerkerpark 7 in Tübingen. No appointment is required. On Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Özge Gürgör provides advice in German, Turkish and Spanish. Open consultation hours without an appointment are also available in Rottenburg. They take place on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in odd-numbered calendar weeks at “B3 – Zentrum für Bildung, Beratung, Begegnung”, Tübinger Straße 70. The exact consultation dates are listed on the website.
Meeting others and mutual support
In Lebenshilfe self-help groups, people with disabilities and a migration background can share experiences and meet others. The activities include a breakfast group for mothers with a migration background and children with disabilities at Friedrich-Dannenmann-Straße 69 in Tübingen on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., as well as the “Ukraine” group for people with disabilities who have fled Ukraine. Those interested in the “Ukraine” self-help group can write to migration@lebenshilfe-tuebingen.de. Families can attend together, and there is a small play area for children.
