In the first half of 2026, the Federal Police recorded around 24,300 “unauthorised entries” at Germany’s borders. According to the Mediendienst Integration, this is 22 per cent fewer than in the same period last year. In 2025, the figure stood at around 31,200.
Most of those apprehended were Ukrainian, Afghan, Turkish, Syrian and Algerian nationals. According to the Federal Police, around 13,900 people were turned back at the borders. Of these, 534 were asylum seekers.
Irregular entries are falling
Even in 2025, fewer migrants entered Germany irregularly. In total, the Federal Police recorded around 63,000 “unauthorised entries”. This was 25 per cent fewer than in the previous year, according to the statement. Most arrived by air.
Most people coming from countries affected by war or poverty are not granted a visa for legal entry into the European Union. They therefore usually arrive as so-called irregular migrants.
