Immigration to Germany fell significantly in 2025. According to the Federal Statistical Office, this is primarily due to fewer refugees arriving from Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.
The agency further reports that nearly 1.5 million people moved to Germany in 2025, 13 percent fewer than in the previous year. Net migration—the difference between emigration and immigration—stood at 235,000 people, according to the statisticians. This represents a 45 percent decline compared to the previous year.
Significantly fewer asylum applications
According to the statistics, there were significantly fewer refugees from Syria (67 percent fewer, from 75,000 to 25,000), Turkey (41 percent fewer, from 41,000 to 24,000), and Afghanistan (41 percent fewer, from 33,000 to 19,000).
