There is an urgent need for nursery teachers in childcare centres. To give people from migrant backgrounds the opportunity to pursue this career, a new free “Kita Lingua” course is starting this autumn.
According to Tübingen City Council, the course will run from 21 September 2026 to 19 March 2027 and will last a total of eight months. The aim of the programme is to prepare participants linguistically for training in the educational sector and to help them achieve the required B2 language level. The City of Tübingen and the University of Tübingen are collaborating on this initiative.
Lessons and content of the language course
Lessons take place four days a week. Participants can choose between a morning group from 9 am to 12.15 pm and an afternoon group from 2 pm to 5.15 pm. In addition to language lessons, key technical terms from early childhood education are taught. The programme also includes workshops on intercultural competence, practical insights into the day-to-day work of a nursery, and support with applications for training places.
Entry requirements
The course is open to people with a migrant background who live in the Tübingen district. They must demonstrate German language skills at B1 level and should be interested in training as a nursery teacher or a social education assistant. Motivation and a genuine enjoyment of working with children are particularly important. It is essential to clarify whether the applicant’s residence status permits participation in the programme and subsequent commencement of vocational training in Germany, the announcement states.
Application
Those wishing to apply must submit a CV in table format, a letter of motivation, relevant certificates and a B1 language certificate. The application deadline is 19 June 2026. Applications can be sent by email to kitalingua@daf.uni-tuebingen.de.
