The number of professional qualifications obtained abroad and recognized in Germany rose again in 2025. According to the Federal Statistical Office, approximately 86,600 applications were approved. That is just under 10 percent more than in 2024.
Strong Increase Among Syrians
As in previous years, most recognitions came from Turkey (9,800), accounting for 11 percent of the total. This was followed by Ukraine (8,400), Syria (6,100), India, and Tunisia. Among these five countries, the number of professional qualifications obtained in Syria saw the sharpest increase at 42 percent. According to the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, not even two percent of the applications were rejected.
Registered Nurse Is the Most Frequently Recognized Profession
The profession recognized by far the most frequently was once again that of registered nurse, with 32,000 cases in 2025. This was followed by physicians and engineers. According to the Federal Statistical Office, these three professions account for 58 percent of all recognized professions.
