Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, children in Baden-Württemberg who need language support will receive additional lessons in primary school. Under the “SprachFit 2+2” programme, four additional language support lessons per week are planned for both the first and second grades. The programme will be introduced gradually: in the 2026–2027 school year, it will initially be introduced in the first grade and later extended to the second grade.
A Child’s Background Does Not Matter
The programme is intended for children who need language support when they start primary school. Their background does not matter. The school management decides which pupils are recommended for the programme. Parents who believe their child needs this kind of support can contact the primary school their child is due to attend or already attends.
Helping Children Understand Lessons Better
The additional lessons are taught by primary school teachers. They are intended to improve children’s language skills and help them understand regular lessons more easily. “SprachFit 2+2” is part of the programme “SprachFit – Auf den Anfang kommt es an”, which operates throughout Baden-Württemberg. It supports children who need additional help from the final year before starting school until the end of primary school.
The School Can Advise on the Right Programme
For children who have recently arrived in Germany and speak little or no German, preparatory classes (Vorbereitungsklassen) or other special language support programmes are generally available. Parents can contact the relevant primary school to find out which option is most suitable for their child.
