Record Number of Naturalizations in Baden-Württemberg

Nearly 40,000 foreign nationals in Baden-Württemberg were granted German citizenship in 2025. Refugees from Syria once again made up the largest group.
According to the State Statistical Office, this marks the highest number of naturalizations since records began in 2000. Compared to 2024, this represents a further increase of 5.2 percent. On average, those naturalized in 2025 were just under 33 years old, making them more than 11 years younger than the overall population of Baden-Württemberg (44.2 years).

Refugees from Syria Largest Group

As in previous years, Syrians (6,495) were the group most frequently granted German citizenship, according to a statement from the State Statistical Office. However, the numbers have declined by nearly 30 percent compared to the previous year, 2024. With over 5,000 naturalizations, former Turkish nationals formed the second-largest group and recorded a significant increase of 32 percent. There were also significant increases among people from the Western Balkan states, Ukraine, and Russia.
