The Tübingen District Office has imposed a general ban on water withdrawal effective immediately due to historically low water levels in the district’s water bodies. Until now, people were still permitted to draw water using hand-held containers.
According to the District Office, there is currently no sign of relief due to the ongoing drought. The situation is expected to worsen further. Short bursts of heavy rain do not provide relief. Conditions for fish and aquatic organisms in water bodies are now critical across the entire district.
Water withdrawal prohibited through the end of September
The Tübingen District Office has therefore issued a general order effective immediately through September 30 restricting what is known as “public use” under water law in all surface water bodies within the district. Accordingly, it is prohibited to withdraw water from streams, rivers, and lakes. Drawing water with hand-held containers, such as buckets and watering cans, as well as using pumps, is prohibited. Anyone who violates this rule faces a fine.
The District Office urges everyone to use water as sparingly as possible.
